Windsor Academy has been given a unique opportunity to provide 4-H programming on campus for our students. This great program will give our students the opportunity to learn about and be involved in Georgia agriculture. Windsor is the only private school in the Middle Georgia area that offers this program to their students. Our 4H Livestock Show Team is made up of 2nd- 12th grade students and their market goat project. These students are responsible for taking care of their animals every day. They are taught a specific curriculum about the care and needs of their animal. The show season runs from July through October, ending at the Georgia National Fair. At the end of the season, the students must turn in a record book that they have created about their project animal. They will also learn about animal sciences, which could prepare them to be involved in 4-H judging teams. 4-H provides many scholarship opportunities for students, and we hope that by providing this program within our school, it will give our students the chance to participate in these scholarship opportunities to further their interest in the field of agriculture and science.
You may ask, what exactly is 4-H? The University of Georgia 4-H program is the largest youth leadership organization in the state. Georgia 4-H provides experiences for young people to learn by doing. 4-H’ers complete hands-on projects in four focus areas of Agriculture, STEM, Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Georgia 4-H is a unit of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is delivered in all counties in the state. This experience grows leaders with life skills like confidence, resilience, and curiosity.
