Windsor Academy’s Lady Knights basketball program won their first S.E.A.I.S Region 2-A Championship in 1977 under John Norman and Assistant Coach Joey Claxton. Windsor has two GISA AAA Basketball State Championships in 1983 and 1999.
The 1983 team went undefeated and was led by Lee Martin. With 68 straight wins in Lady Knights basketball (and softball) over two years, The Macon-Telegraph & News ranked Windsor in the top 10 in the state in women’s basketball for the first time in Windsor’s history. The top 10 rankings included public and private schools, making the accomplishment even more impressive.
The 1999 team (29-1) was led by Gaylyn Lawson Cole. To date, four Lady Knight’s basketball players have had their jersey numbers retired: No.40 Lee Ann Hammond (Class of 1984) with 1,649 career points, No. 30 Amilee Martin (Class of 1991) with 1,692 career points, No. 22 Shelli Wall (Class of 1993) with 1,535 career points, and No. 20 Jennifer Paige Hencley (Class of 1999) with 2,257 career points. Shelli Wall went to Georgia Southwestern.
